FORCE076FREE – HSD, Vhari, CLRH2O & Jaybee – Dreadlocked EP (Free)
Straylight Music Group - Stepping Forward Records / Published by: We Are Legion ASCAP / Distributed by: Straylight Music Group & Symphonic Distribution.
New Zealand’s own High Speed Dubbing (Mark:One) returns to FORCE in a big way! Featuring a new collaboration with VHARI, an amazing remix of his Dreadlocked original from label owner CLRH2O, and finally badman JAYBEE supplying a nitro fueled hardstep banger to round out the mans sophomore EP for the label.
While still bubbling along in the ragga influenced realm HSD’s known for, his productions take a turn into a slightly darker more introspective space this outing. The EP’s title track is the type of simple, solid and deep amen affair that real DnB heads yearn for… but with a turn for the heavy after the middle breakdown and brings a movement of intensity you weren’t expecting early on. Dreadlocked also gets the remix treatment from label owner and long time “make it mean something” drum n bass producer CLRH2O. This “Run De’ Track Rmx” completely replaces the original’s drums with multiple layers of Amens, backing Lynn shakers and programmed percussion with seriously worked up beat programming. Bringing the dancehall vibe more front and center with ragga blips and dubbed up chatting throughout - all meshed with the original’s signature bassline. Add in a night-time rain and thunder atmosphere laid across a new haunted backing synth and CLRH2O brings the original to a whole new level. HSD & VHARI’s “Ill Sogno” is a standout element of the EP and a song that the one and only Digital has been supporting throughout the past year. It’s a Paris break based hardstep affair with underlying amen snips that rolls along smoothly transitioning from movement to movement in a way unlike what you normally hear for a tune so rugged. When you need to set a serious vibe this is the tune. And hands down the most devastating of the bunch comes from long time production partner and co-owner of FORCE’s sub-label “Stepping Forward Records” JAYBEE. While he’s currently known for more soulful joints and liquid collaborations, his “Comeback Dub” is a 100% return to roots sound for the man. Starting off the slow burn is a wash of hats, dubbed out dancehall chatting, haunting strings and efx that lead into the opening Hardstep and then all hell breaks loose! Pitched down Amens and Bongos join the fray lock step with a muted Samurai and an absolutely murderous bassline that drops, winds, grinds and just plain beats you up!
Its called HARDSTEP for a reason!
